Fret-Buzz: Spoonman

Difficulty: Medium | Guitar used: Epiphone SG | Tuning: Drop-D

This was the first single released from the classic 1994 Soundgarden album Superunknown. Although written by frontman Chris Cornell, the name came from Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament.

The song is in drop-D tuning so remember to tune the 6th string down to D. Although just simple one finger power chords, the rhythm may cause a bit of a headache at first- Soundgarden frequently used non-standard 7/4 and 5/4 timings, to name just a couple! Take it slow and concentrate on getting the timing right.

                                                            P.M.

Fret-Buzz: Johnny B. Goode

Difficulty: medium | Guitar used: Fender Telecaster | Tuning: Standard

The intro in Chuck Berry’s 1958 hit is a great little lick to learn. As Marty Mcfly said in back to the future: “All right guys, it’s a blues riff in B, watch me for the changes and try and keep up, OK?

Fret-Buzz: This Charming Man

Difficulty: Medium | Guitar used: Fender Telecaster | Tuning: Standard

The Smith’s second single is perhaps one of their most iconic songs. Johnny Marr’s distinctive opening riff being the feature of this Frett-Buzz article. The jangly guitar sound requires a single coil equipped guitar with the bridge pickup selected and plenty of reverb to replicate the double tracking on the record.
